Ramadan In The Quran

A Knowledge hidden for almost 1400 years, discover Laylatu l-Qadr, Ramadan and the Islamic Fasting, with our exclusive guide using only the Quran. This is something Islamic Scholars were never able to explain using the Quran which resulted in fabricating without Allah’s Authorization the so-called False Sahih Hadiths. Allah SWT explains why they didn’t have access to this in 17:45-46 > 47:24 and in 6:112-113 on why they fabricated the False Sahih Hadiths.

Dive into clear, straightforward instructions to perform Salat, drawing directly from the sacred text.  Whether you’re a beginner or seeking a deeper connection, unlock the knowledge of Salat guided by the Quran Alone/Allah Alone.

6:112

Likewise, We have assigned for every prophet an enemy—human and jinn devilsinspiring one another with fancy words in order to deceive. But had your Lord willed, they would not have done it. So leave them to their fabrications.

6:113

So that the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter may incline to it, and be content with it, and that they may perpetrate whatever they perpetrate.

17:45

When you read the Quran, We place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter an invisible barrier.

17:46

And We drape veils over their hearts, preventing them from understanding it, and heaviness in their ears. And when you mention your Lord alone in the Quran, they turn their backs in aversion.

47:24

Will they not ponder the Quran?
Or are there locks upon their hearts?

New Moon and Calculations of Full Moon

1 lunar month

In Islam, the lunar calendar plays a crucial role in determining significant events, including the start of Ramadan. We rely on the moon’s phases to mark the beginning of this sacred month, awaiting the sighting of the first crescent as a signal to commence fasting. This practice is deeply rooted in the Quran’s guidance, which emphasizes the observation of celestial phenomena for timekeeping. Quranic verses such as Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185) urge believers to fast during the month of Ramadan, indicating the importance of following the lunar calendar for this purpose. Similarly, Surah Yunus (10:5) highlights Allah’s creation of the sun, moon, and stars as signs for measuring time. By adhering to the Quranic injunctions and awaiting the new moon’s appearance, we honor the divine wisdom embedded in the lunar calendar and embark on a spiritual journey guided by celestial rhythms.

2:185

Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed. Guidance for humanity,
and clear portents of guidance, and the Criterion. Whoever of you witnesses the month, shall fast it. But whoever is sick, or on a journey, then a number of other days. God desires ease for you, and does not desire hardship for you, that you may complete the number, and celebrate God for having guided you, so that you may be thankful.

10:5

It is He who made the sun radiant, and the moon a light, and determined phases for it that you may know the number of years and the calculation. God did not create all this except with truth. He details the revelations for a people who know.

When To & Break Fast

Welcome to our guide to Ramadan, where we explore the Quran‘s teachings about this special month. Ramadan is a time for fasting and spiritual reflection for Muslims worldwide. In this guide, we focus on the Quran‘s guidance to understand when to start fasting and when to break the fast. Let’s dive into the Quranic verses to uncover the wisdom behind these practices

When to Start Fasting

advanced divider

Fasting Start ounce White Line Visible

In the Quran, Allah instructs believers regarding the timing of fasting in Ramadan. In  Surah Al-Baqarah (2:187), Allah clarifies, 'eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the night.' These verses establish the criteria for starting the fast at fajr, signaled by the appearance of light, and ending it at night. Thus, according to the Quran, fasting in Ramadan lasts from fajr to night

2:187

Permitted for you is intercourse with your wives on the night of the fast. They are a garment for you, and you are a garment for them. God knows that you used to betray yourselves, but He turned to you and pardoned you. So approach them now, and seek what God has ordained for you, and eat and drink until the white streak of dawn can be distinguished from the black streak. Then complete the fast until nightfall. But do not approach them while you are in retreat at the mosques. These are the limits of God, so do not come near them. God thus clarifies His revelations to the people, that they may attain piety.

When to Break Fasting (Night vs Sunset)

advanced divider

In understanding when to breakfast during Ramadan, the Quran provides clear guidance that sets it apart from conventional timing. While many may break their fast at sunset, the Quran instructs believers to do so at nightfall. This distinction between sunset and nightfall is significant, as it aligns with the Quran’s teachings. Quranic verses such as Surah Al-Baqarah (2:187) emphasize breaking the fast “until the night,” indicating that fasting extends until the onset of night rather than solely until sunset. Additionally, Surah Al-Isra (50:39/40) highlights the importance of distinguishing between sunset and the night, urging believers to observe this distinction. Therefore, in adherence to the Quran’s teachings, we strive to uphold the fast until the arrival of nightfall, as instructed by Allah.

50:39

So endure what they say, and proclaim the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun, and before sunset.

50:40

And glorify Him during the night, and at the end of devotions.

Night Al-Qadr 25 march 2024 = Full Moon

Laylatul Qadr, also known as the Night of Decree or the Night of Power. Contrary to the commonly held belief that Laylatul Qadr falls on the 27th day of Ramadan, we present evidence from the Quran suggesting that it occurs on the night of The Full Moon During The Month of Ramadan, coinciding with the historic Battle of Badr. This significant event, mentioned in Surah Al-Imran, highlights the Day the Two Armies met, which we find emphasized in Surah Al-Anfal as well. These Quranic verses connect the Battle of Badr with Laylatul Qadr and the full moon, providing a clear Answer To When Is Laylat AlQadr..

Connection between Badr, the Full Moon, Quran, Furqan and Laylat al-Qadr

The Quranic narrative of the Battle of Badr, the first major clash between two armies, confirms its occurrence during Ramadan. By examining verses such as Surah Anfal (8:41) and Surah Al-Imran (3:123), which mention Badr, we substantiate the correlation between Laylat al-Qadr and the Battle of Badr, affirming the accuracy of today's Ramadan month in accordance with the lunar calendar. Through an in-depth analysis of Quranic verses, we elucidate the linkage between Laylat al-Qadr and the Battle of Badr, shedding light on their significance within Islamic tradition.

8:41

And know that whatever spoils you gain, to God belongs its fifth, and to the Messenger, and the relatives, and the orphans, and the poor, and to the wayfarer, provided you believe in God and in what We revealed to Our servant on the Day of Furqan, the day when the two armies met. God is Capable of everything.

3:123

God had given you victory at Badr, when you were weak. So fear God, that you may be thankful.

The narrative in Surah Al-Imran (3:155) and (3:166) underscores the significance of the Battle of Badr as the Day the Two Armies met. This event, referred to as Yawma l-taqaa l-Jam’aan in Arabic, is emphasized in the Quran as a pivotal moment. Surah Al-Imran (3:155) recounts the consequences faced by those who turned away on this crucial day, attributing their misstep to Satanic influence. Likewise, Surah Al-Imran (3:166) acknowledges that what transpired on the Day the Two Armies met was by the permission of Allah, intended to make evident the true believers. This linkage between the Battle of Badr and the Day the Two Armies met underscores the divine significance of this historical event, highlighting its role in distinguishing the faithful.

3:155

Those of you who turned back on the day when the two armies clashed—it was
Satan who caused them to backslide, on account of some of what they have earned. But God has forgiven them. God is Forgiving and Prudent.

3:166

What befell you on the day the two armies clashed was with God’s permission; that He may know the believers.

The Day of The Furqan, as highlighted in Surah Al-Furqan (25:1), holds immense significance in Islam. This Surah, named after the Furqan, or the Criterion, emphasizes its blessed nature. It begins by extolling the One who sent down the Furqan upon His Servant as a Warner to the knowledgeable. Within this Surah, the story of Prophet Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron) unfolds, both recipients of the Furqan. Surah Al-Baqarah (2:53) confirms that Musa received the Scripture and the Furqan to guide his people. Remarkably, Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185) establishes that the Furqan, along with the Quran, was revealed during the month of Ramadan, urging believers to fast and appreciate Allah’s guidance. In Surah Al-A’raf (7:143-144), the moment of Musa‘s encounter with his Lord, receiving the Furqan, is vividly depicted. Allah’s selection of Musa and Harun, granting them the Furqan, is highlighted in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:48), reinforcing their role as bearers of divine guidance. Thus, the Furqan‘s revelation during Ramadan and its bestowal upon Musa and Harun underscore its sanctity and significance in Islam.

25:1

Blessed is He who sent down the Furqan upon His servant, to be a warning to humanity.

2:53

And recall that We gave Moses the Scripture and the Furqan,
so that you may be guided.

2:185

Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed. Guidance for humanity, and clear portents of guidance, and the Criterion. Whoever of you witnesses the month, shall fast it. But whoever is sick, or on a journey, then a number of other days. God desires ease for you, and does not desire hardship for you, that you may complete the number, and celebrate God for having guided you, so that you may be
thankful.

7:143

And when Moses came to Our appointment, and his Lord spoke to him, he said, “My Lord, allow me to look and see You.” He said, “You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it stays in its place, you will see Me.” But when his Lord manifested Himself to the mountain, He turned it into dust, and Moses fell down unconscious. Then, when he recovered, he said, “Glory be to you, I repent to you, and I am the first of the believers.”

7:144

He said, “O Moses, I have chosen you over all people for My messages and for My Words. So take what I have given you, and be one of the thankful.”

21:48

We gave Moses and Aaron the Furqan, and illumination, and a reminder for the righteous.

Laylat al-Qadr Connections

advanced divider

During the month of Ramadan, the Quran and the Furqan were revealed on a specific night known as Laylat al-Qadr, or the Night of Decree. This night is described in the Quran as better than a thousand months and is marked by the descent of angels and the Spirit, bringing peace until dawn (Quran 97:1-5). This event is mentioned twice in the Quran, emphasizing its significance. In (Quran 44:1-6), it is highlighted that on this blessed night, every wise command is made distinct, underscoring the importance of differentiation and clarity (Quran 44:1-6). The repetition of this event in the Quran underscores the eternal significance of Laylat al-Qadr as a night of divine revelation and blessings.

97:1

We sent it down on the Night of al-Qadr

97:2

But what will tell you what the Night of AlQadr is?

97:3

The Night of AlQadr is better than a thousand months.

97:4

In it descend the angels and the Spirit, by the leave of their Lord, with every command.

Peace it is; until the rise of dawn.

By the Enlightening Scripture.

44:3

We have revealed it on a Blessed Night We have warned.

In it is distinguished every wise command.

44:5

A decree from Us. We have been sending messages.

The Battle of Badr, where the believers in God, led by Prophet Muhammad, faced the polytheists. This encounter, referred to as the Day of the Furqan (Quran 8:48), showcased a clear distinction between the two sides. It's essential to understand that the term "Day" here signifies a full 24-hour period, not just the daylight hours. The battle commenced after Laylat al-Qadr, as indicated in Quran 97:5, where peace prevailed until dawn. This peace was disrupted only after dawn, signaling the start of conflict. Quran 97:4 highlights the descent of angels and the Spirit, emphasizing their role in battles. Prophet Muhammad assured believers of divine assistance, referencing the support of thousands of angels in Surah 3:124. The manner in which Allah sends angels into battle is described in Quran 8:9, affirming divine reinforcement to those who seek His help. This narrative underscores the significance of divine intervention and the strategic timing of events during significant historical moments.

8:48

Satan made their deeds appear good to them, and said, “You cannot be defeated by any people today, and I am at your side.” But when the two armies came in sight of one another, he turned on his heels, and said, “I am innocent of you; I see what you do not see; I fear God; God is severe in punishment.”

97:4

In it descend the angels and the Spirit, by the leave of their Lord, with every command.

97:5

Peace it is; until the rise of dawn.

3:124

When you said to the believers, “Is it not enough for you that your Lord has reinforced you with three thousand angels, sent down?”

3:125

It is; but if you persevere and remain cautious, and they attack you suddenly, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels, well trained.

8:9

When you appealed to your Lord for help, He answered you, “I am reinforcing you with one thousand angels in succession.”

The Battle of Badr, a pivotal event in Islamic history, took place on the 15th of Ramadan, coinciding with the full moon of the month. The significance of this timing is profound, as it aligns with Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree. The Arabic noun "Badr" (بدر), meaning Full Moon, further emphasizes the connection between the battle and the lunar phase of Ramadan. This synchronicity underscores the divine orchestration of events, highlighting the importance of Laylat al-Qadr as a night of profound significance and divine decree. The Battle of Badr serves as a reminder of the spiritual and historical significance of this auspicious night, further enriching its symbolism and importance in the Islamic tradition.

Fasting during Ramadan Rules

advanced divider

Fasting during Ramadan is mandated by the Quran, with guidelines outlined in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183-185). These verses establish fasting as a means of attaining righteousness and piety, detailing exemptions and instructions for fasting from dawn until night. Additionally, Allah emphasizes the completion of the prescribed fasting period and the performance of Hajj for those who are able. By adhering to these Quranic principles, Muslims observe Ramadan with devotion and spiritual growth.

2:183

O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous.

2:184

For a specified number of days.
But whoever among you is sick,
or on a journey,
then a number of other days.
For those who are able: a ransom of feeding a needy person.
But whoever volunteers goodness, it is better for him.
But to fast is best for you,

2:185

Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed. Guidance for humanity, and clear proof of guidance, and the Furqan. Whoever of you witnesses the month, shall fast it. But whoever is sick, or on a journey, then a number of other days. God desires ease for you, and does not desire hardship for you, that you may complete the number, and celebrate God for having guided you, so that you may be thankful.

In the Quran, Allah offers guidance on the interaction between spouses during Ramadan. Surah Al-Baqarah (2:187) specifies that intimate relations are permitted solely during the night preceding the fast and not during daylight hours. However, it's crucial to uphold mutual respect, understanding, and kindness within the marital bond, even during this sacred month. Thus, while honoring the sanctity of the fast, spouses should prioritize love, compassion, and support for each other throughout Ramadan.
